UN treaty on mercury will help curb pollution in poor countries
The Minamata Convention on mercury pollution has been formally adopted by the United Nations and has entered the signatory process. The convention, which regulates supply, trade and use of mercury, will be used to reduce mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants and the element's use in small-scale gold mining.
