UNHCR: Statelessness to be eradicated in 10 years
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Tuesday began a global, 10-year "I Belong" campaign to end statelessness, where people have no nationality and no citizenship rights. "Without nationality, stateless people are often deprived of other basic human rights, such as going to school, getting a job, getting married or registering the birth of a child," says Ban Ki-moon, UN secretary-general. "They are sentenced to a life of marginalization and invisibility." Yahoo/The Associated Press (11/4), Voice of America (11/4), The Guardian (London) (11/5)

UN Women's Puri: Ending violence against women is a key SDG goal
The draft Sustainable Development Goals' comprehensive goal on gender equality and a target for ending violence against women need to be supplemented with tools for fulfilling these aims, says Lakshmi Puri, United Nations assistant-secretary-general and deputy executive director of UN Women. "It is critical to ensure that accountability mechanisms are in place; that funding for implementation is adequate, predictable and sustainable; and that the means of implementation are strengthened," she argues. Commentary: Carbon capture can help meet IPCC's zero-emissions goal
Carbon capture and storage is an overlooked method that can be employed to reduce carbon emissions and keep a lid on global temperatures, writes David Hone, climate change adviser for Shell.
