Bachelet marks one year of UN Women

Despite gains in democracy across the world, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, women in many countries continue to have little, if any, influence in politics, or even access to credit to start businesses -- all the while contending with discrimination, sexual harassment and violence on a daily basis. "My top priority for 2012 will be to make a renewed push for women's economic empowerment and political participation," Michelle Bachelet, head of UN Women, said on the first anniversary of the women's agency.
