Alertadel Secretariado Permanente de la Red Latinoamericana y del Caribe para laDemocracia (Redlad): amenazas contra directivo de la organización CONVITE A.C. enVenezuela.

El Secretariado Permanente de la Red Latinoamericana y del Caribe para la Democracia (Redlad) alerta sobre la persecución y hostigamiento contra personeros de la organización venezolana CONVITE, miembro de la Redlad, por parte de seguidores del Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV).
Luís Fernando Cabezas, Director General de CONVITE, recibió cerca de tres amenazas telefónicas, luego de la publicación de una investigación sobre el sistema de salud en Venezuela en la que evidencia que el acceso gratuito a salud y atención médica de calidad no están garantizados en el país. La investigación recogió insumos de 365 instituciones asistenciales del Distrito Capital y los estados de Vargas y Miranda. Se contabilizó por ejemplo la falta de agua potable, alimentación y ambulancias para dar abasto con la población de los sectores analizados.
Se constató además, que en el 51% de los centros hay servicio de alimentación para los pacientes. En el 39% existen carencias en el suministro de agua potable, en el 26% se presentan fallas de electricidad, en el 61% existen fallas graves de infraestructura y otras muchas irregularidades concretadas. La Comisión de Epidemiología de la Red de Sociedades Científicas Médicas Venezolanas apoyó la investigación y reprochó los hostigamientos realizados contra Luís Fernando Cabezas.
Las amenazas recibidas contra el directivo de CONVITE fueron realizadas a su teléfono personal, de parte de personas que se identificaron como seguidoras del Presidente Hugo Chávez.
Ante ello, el Secretariado Permanente de Redlad, plataforma de impulso a la democracia, los derechos humanos y libertades fundamentales integrada por más de 450 organizaciones, Miembro Oficial del Foro de Sociedad Civil de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) y Capítulo Regional del Movimiento Mundial por la Democracia (WMD):
* Expresa su solidaridad al equipo de Convite, a su Director General Luís Fernando Cabezas y rechaza las prácticas de violencia, hostigamiento, intimidación y amenazas que se encuentran latentes en contra de las organizaciones de la sociedad civil venezolana.
* Insta al poder judicial venezolano y al gobierno en general, a realizar una investigación pronta y exhaustiva de los hechos, a la vez, que exige medidas de protección a favor de las personas amenazadas y hostigadas.
* Urge a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos a analizar ampliamente las denuncias de persecución, intimidación y violencia contra líderes de la sociedad civil venezolana con el fin de expedir medidas cautelares de protección.
* Solicita al Señor Secretario General de la OEA, José Miguel Insulza, a realizar una investigación sobre el nivel de violencia en Venezuela y en particular sobre el auge de amenazas y persecuciones contra activistas y organizaciones de la sociedad civil.

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Democracy (Redlad) warning about the persecution and harassment of representatives of the Venezuelan organization CONVITE, Redlad member, by followers of Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV).
Luis Fernando Cabezas, General Director of CONVITE, received three telephone threats after publication of an investigation into the health system in Venezuela in which evidence that free access to health and quality health care are not guaranteed in the country. The research collected information of 365 medical institutions in the Capital District and the states of Vargas and Miranda. It accounted for instance the lack of drinking water, food and ambulances to cope the needs of the population of the sectors analyzed.
It further found that in 51% of the centers don´t have food service for patients. In 39% there are problems in the provision of drinking water, 26% have power failures, 61% have severe infrastructure failures and many other irregularities concretized. The Commission on Epidemiology Network of Scientific Medical Societies Venezuelan supported research and criticized the harassment made against Luis Fernando Cabezas.
The threats against the director of CONVITE were made to your personal phone, from people who identified themselves as followers of President Hugo Chavez.
In response, the Permanent Secretariat Redlad, platform push for democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms comprising more than 450 organizations, Official Member of the Civil Society Forum of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Regional Chapter of the World Movement Democracy (WMD):
* Expresses solidarity to CONVITE, its General Director Luis Fernando Cabezas and rejects the practice of violence, harassment, intimidation and threats that are latent against civil society organizations in Venezuela.
* Urges the Venezuelan judiciary and the government in general, to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of the facts, at once, requires protective measures for the people threatened and harassed.
* Urges the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IAHR) to discuss complaints widely persecution, intimidation and violence against civil society leaders Venezuelan and expedite interim measures of protection of the victims.
* Requests the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, to conduct an investigation into the level of violence in Venezuela and in particular the rise of threats and persecution of activists and civil society organizations.
