In this issue UN General Assembly voices concern on the state of human trafficking across the globe 14th session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development opens in Geneva WSIS Forum 2013 focuses on post-2015 development agenda Reminder: Registration deadline for 2013 UNCTAD Public Symposium approaching 46th Session of the Commission on Population and Development fails to reach consensus on addressing the needs of women and young migrants Deadline Extended to 22 May: Registration for Informal Hearings for High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development Upcoming Events 20-31 May 2013 12th Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues  The 12th Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will feature a large array of panel discussions, side events and caucuses. As it is a review year, the agenda will not focus on a particular theme but will include, amongst others: follow-up on the recommendations on the Permanent Forum (health, education, culture); a half-day discussion on the African region; a comprehensive dialogue with UN agencies and funds; a discussion on the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, as well as on the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; and a dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Chair of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. 22-24 May 2013, New York Third Meeting of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals The third meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will focus on food security and nutrition, sustainable agriculture, desertification, land degradation and drought (2 days), and water and sanitation (1 day). This session will also include hour-long co-chairs\' meetings with representatives of Major Groups, civil society and other stakeholders, each morning from 9-10am. For more information, please see the Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform space on the OWG. 31 May 2013 Launch of the report of the High-level Panel on Post-2015 The final report of the Secretary-General\'s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda will be submitted to the UN Secretary-General on 30 May and will be publicly available through the Panel’s website on 31 May 2013. An outreach event with stakeholders is proposed for 31 May in New York, and will be followed by regional and national launch events held across the globe. Further details will be made available by the Panel Secretariat and posted on the HLP website. UN Reports ILO/UNCTAD: Shared Harvests: Agriculture, Trade and Employment UNCTAD and the ILO have released a publication, Shared Harvests: Agriculture, Trade and Employment, that stresses that agricultural trade can be an opportunity for creating jobs and alleviating poverty around the world. The publication analyzes the impact of agricultural trade on labour markets in developing countries, in particular how it affects the creation and destruction of jobs in the agricultural sector. WHO/UNICEF: Progress on Sanitation and Drinking-Water: 2013 Update WHO and UNICEF issued Progress on sanitation and drinking-water: 2013 update, a jointly produced report that presents country, regional and global estimates on sanitation and drinking water coverage. The report voices concern that not enough progress has been made to reach the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target of halving the proportion of the 1990 population without sanitation by 2015. In fact, the two organizations - working together through the Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation - estimate that the target will be missed by 8%, or half a billion people. With around 25 million victims, human trafficking affects every country in the world. The two-day High-level Meeting, which opened on 13 May, reviewed progress made since the adoption of the Global Plan of Action in order to strengthen national and international efforts to end thi! s global enterprise. The 14th session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development opens in Geneva On 13 May, the 14th session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Right to Development opened in Geneva. Over five days, the Working Group will revise and refine the draft "right to development operational sub-criteria," developed to help assess the extent to which States are individually and collectively taking steps to establish, promote and sustain national and international arrangements that cre! ate an enabling environment for the realization of the right to development. The right to development is the right of peoples and individuals to the constant improvement of their well-being and to a national and global enabling environment conducive to just, equitable, participatory and human-centred development respectful of all human rights. WSIS Forum 2013 focuses on post-2015 development agenda The WSIS Forum 2013, being held in Geneva from 13-17 May, is focusing on the post-2015 development agenda and will also explore emerging trends and innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT). It brings together participants from government, private sector, civil society and international organizations. More information is available online. Reminder: Registration deadline for 2013 UNCTAD Public Symposium approaching Registration for the 2013 UNCTAD Public Symposium will close on 1 June 2013. The entity\'s annual outreach event will bring together representatives from government, academia, civil society and the private sector, as well as other interested observers, to engage in open and interactive dialogue on "Macroeconomic and financial governance on the road to 2015" and "Trade and investment rules for inclusive and sustainable development." More information is available online. 46th Session of the Commission on Population and Development fails to reach consensus on addressing the needs of women and young migrants The forty-sixth session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) was held at UN Headquarters in New York from 22 to 26 April 2013. The Commission’s meeting focused on the theme “New Trends in Migration: Demographic Aspects.” The meeting emphasized the dual nature of migration as bringing many development benefits, but often occasioning human rights violations. The Commission adopted by weak consensus a resolution on human rights protections for migrants, but failed to reach agreed conclusions at the closing of the session. Deadline Extended to 22 May: Registration for Informal Hearings for High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development The deadline for NGOs to register for the informal interactive hearings and the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development has been extended until 22 May 2013. There is one registration process for the High-level Dialogue (3-4 October) and for the hearings, to be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 15 July 2013.
