[RED DEMOCRATICA] Alabama's H.B. 56 on The Colbert Report

Friend --

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert interviewed Scott Douglas of Greater Birmingham Ministries about the worst anti-immigrant law in the country, Alabama’s H.B. 56.

Click here to watch Stephen Colbert and Scott Douglas take on H.B. 56

With Colbert’s unique ability to use humor to highlight serious situations (like the conditions in Alabama, for example), this conversation with Scott Douglas demonstrates just how disastrous H.B. 56 is for our country and how ridiculous it is for Alabama.

Be sure to check it out.

P.S. The Alabama legislative session begins in just three weeks and we’re gearing up for the big fight to repeal H.B. 56.  We’ll be sure to keep you posted about how you can stay involved and help us.

Mahwish --

What are you doing tonight? If you’re free, make sure to watch the Colbert Report at 11:30 p.m. EST (10:30 CST) on Comedy Central.

Scott Douglas, from Alabama’s Greater Birmingham Ministries, will be on the show to tell Stephen and his 1.5 million viewers about the urgent need to repeal the worst anti-immigrant law in the country, H.B. 56.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day – the time we honor Dr. King’s legacy and remind ourselves that the struggle for a more just, tolerant and equal society continues.

When Dr. King served as pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, in Montgomery, AL, in the 1950s, he told his congregants that it wasn’t enough to hold convictions or articulate a vision for a better tomorrow - you needed to work towards it.

Which reminds me, have you signed our petition to repeal H.B. 56 yet?  So far almost 5,000 people have signed it – will you add your name?

The Alabama legislature opens very soon -- February 7th, to be exact -- and we must show Alabama politicians that the entire nation is watching and expecting them to do the right thing.

Our success in Alabama will send a powerful signal to politicians from coast to coast that Americans will not stand for discriminatory laws designed to divide us along racial lines.  Inhumane rhetoric and anti-immigrant laws, like Alabama’s H.B. 56, only thrive when America isn’t paying attention. But tonight, the spotlight will be shining bright.

So make sure to tune in to Comedy Central tonight at 11:30 EST/10:30 CST and tell your friends.

Thanks again for all your hard work,

Adam Luna

P.S. If you don’t have a chance to catch the show tonight, we’ll send around the clip tomorrow.
