Aleppo will be focus of UN Rights Council meeting Friday
The United Nations Human Rights Council will discuss the deteriorating situation in Aleppo, Syria, in a special session Friday at the request of Britain. Separately, no aid deliveries to Aleppo will be made until all groups pledge safe passage for aid workers, said UN spokesman Jens Laerke.

3-day truce declared in Yemen to allow aid deliveries
All warring parties have agreed to a 72-hour truce to allow humanitarian deliveries in Yemen beginning tonight. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has launched a $22.35 million appeal to fund cholera prevention efforts in Yemen.

UN to continue monitoring Colombia cease-fire
The United Nations Security Council has agreed to a UN mission to oversee the extended cease-fire between the Colombian government and FARC rebels, and it encourages both sides to come to a new peace agreement.

UNICEF reaches agreement with suppliers on childhood vaccines
UNICEF's 16 years of negotiations with six vaccine suppliers concluded with an agreement to provide a combined for five childhood diseases at a 50% reduction in price. The deal calls for 450 million doses to be sent to 80 countries over the next three years.

UN climate chief discusses energy diversification with OPEC official
United Nations climate chief Patricia Espinosa met with Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries Secretary-General Mohammad Barkindo on Tuesday to discuss how to fund energy diversification. The subject also will be a topic at the November climate talks in Marrakech, Morocco.

8-hour truce declared for Aleppo by Russia, Syria
Syria and Russia announced an eight-hour humanitarian pause for Thursday to allow aid deliveries into Aleppo, Syria. The two countries also said they would allow rebels to exit the city at that time, but rebels have rejected the idea of leaving.
