President Dieter F. Uchtdorf Meets President Obama on Immigration Reform

 

 

Salt Lake City – Today President Obama met with over a dozen faith leaders at the White House that included President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor of the LDS Church.  The following is a statement from Tony Yapias, immigrant activist and former Director of Hispanic Affairs for the State of Utah:

 

"I am pleased to hear President Uchtdorf say that comprehensive immigration reform is 'totally in line with our values' in reference to the meeting with President Obama along with other faith leaders on such important issue.  I believe that immigration reform is a moral issue and as such, many religious organizations have consistently called on the President and Congress to pass immigration reform. Today's meeting at the White House that included a representative of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shows how important this issue is for members of the LDS faith. This is the first time a member of the First Presidency has met with President Obama to talk about immigration.  My hope is that members of the LDS faith will become more supportive of a comprehensive immigration reform. I call on our Congressional representatives to support immigration reform and work with President Obama.
