Commission on Population and Development underway in New York On 22 April, the 46th session of the Commission on Population and Development opened in New York. For five consecutive days, representatives of UN Member States, the UN system, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC will discuss the demographic aspects of new trends in migration. The first day was marked by a strong call that the opportunities underlying migration must be recognized and become a key component of the post-2015 agenda. More information is available online. Informal Hearings for High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development: Deadline 15 May The informal interactive hearings for the High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (3-4 October) will be held at the United Nations in New York on 15 July 2013. Pre-registration for representatives of NGOs with ECOSOC consultative status, as well as for representatives of civil society organizations and the private sector without ECOSOC consultative status is now open. Please note that there is only one registration process for both the hearings and the High-level Dialogue. The deadline for NGO registration is 15 May 2013. More information is available online. Reminder: Conference on "Potential and Limits of Social and Solidarity Economy" (Geneva, 6-8 May 2013) From 6-8 May, the United Nations Research Institute on Social Development (UNRISD), in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS), will organize a three-day Conference on "Potential and Limits of Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)." The Conference will consider whether SSE, meaning forms of production and exchange that have both economic and social objectives and involve varying degrees of cooperation, association and solidarity, can make a real difference to food security, rural development, gender equality and decent work. It will also explore the role of governments, civil society and the private sector; and discuss whether SSE can be expanded while remaining integrative and rights-based. Save the date: Registration for 2013 UNCTAD Public Symposium open until 1 June 2013 The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will hold its 2013 Public Symposium - UNCTAD\'s annual outreach event- on 24-25 June 2013 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The two-day event will bring together representatives from government, academia, civil society and the private sector, as well as other interested observers, to engage in an open and interactive dialogue on "New Economic Approaches for a Coherent Post-2015 Agenda." In line with past practice, the outcome of the Symposium will be submitted as an input to upcoming sessions of UNCTAD\'s Trade and Development Board. It may also be transmitted to the United Nations General Assembly, and may serve as an input to the consultation process on the post-2015 international development agenda. UNISDR releases "Synthesis Report on Consultations on the Post-2015 Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction" Following UN General Assembly Resolution 67/209, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) was requested to facilitate the development of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (referred to as Hyogo Framework for Action 2 or HFA2). Since the consultative process was launched in March 2012, governments and wide-range of stakeholders have carried out targeted consultations at global, regional, national and local levels and have communicated their views through the National HFA Monitor, online dialogues and other mechanisms..
