The United Nations World Water Development Report says rising energy needs will strain water resources, especially in developing countries, with demand rising by 55% in 2050 from today's 15%. Separately, a report by WaterAid says that wealthy donors have failed to make good on financial aid for sanitation and water projects from 2002 to 2012, leaving many needy countries without adequate access to these basic resources.
