In 2007 recent college graduates of Mexican descent united with community leaders to discuss the political, socio-economic, and the educational status of the Mexican American community in the Garden State, thus introducing the notion of a binational summit between the Governments of New Jersey, The United States, and México.

As the Latino population of New Jersey continues to mushroom through this decade, no sub-set of the ethnic group has demonstrated more unprecedented growth than that of residents of Mexican ancestry.
The growth spurt among this group, which has occurred mostly over the last 25 years, today ranks second only to the population of Puerto Ricans. Some put population projections well over 300,000.
