Wednesday February 16th, 2011 House proposes drastic cuts to international affairs In a few hours the House will be considering Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) to fund the federal government for the remainder of FY 2011.  This proposed legislation would drastically reduce funding for U.S. contributions to the United Nations.  Click here to take action and tell your Congress member to PROTECT the United Nations. As if those cuts weren't terrible enough, we know that at least 6 more amendments are coming that attack U.S. engagement with the United Nations.  We can't afford to let these, or any other amendments, to pass.  Send that message to your Congress member now.  We know we need to cut the deficit, but cutting disproportionately into the international affairs budget, less than 1% of our nation’s budget, is in the words of my boss Don Kraus, “like cutting my daughter’s allowance to pay down our mortgage.”  Short-changing our important role in the world undercuts our foreign policy goals, undermines our global reputation, and threatens our national security.  Please take action NOW.
