"Genocide" a possibility in Central African Republic, UN adviser says
There is a possibility that the violence in the Central African Republic could turn into genocide, Adama Dieng, United Nations special adviser on the prevention of genocide, told the Security Council on Friday. "My feeling is that this will end with Christian communities, Muslim communities killing each other which means that if we don't act now and decisively I will not exclude the possibility of a genocide occurring," Dieng said. The world's food security will be put at risk by climate change, with food production potentially dropping by 2% per decade, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns in a draft of its latest report, writes Justin Gillis. Climate change will be "potentially undermining crop production and driving up prices at a time when the demand for food is expected to soar, scientists have found," he writes.
