Security Council considers Ban's peacekeeping request for CAR
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is asking the Security Council to approve a UN peacekeeping force of as many as 10,000 troops and 1,820 police to help civilians in the Central African Republic. Meanwhile, the U.S. is urging the UN to restrain the cost and scope of the mission, says Peter Yeo, executive director of the Better World Campaign. The U.S. "is correctly asking the UN to tighten its belt, as it should. And it has," Yeo says. Reuters (3/3), The New York Times (tiered subscription model) (3/3)
