 The French investigating Magistrate, Jean-Louis Bruguière, in charge of counter-terrorist section and Vice-president of the Paris Court of Serious Claims (Tribunal de Grande Instance) will be the keynote speaker at the XXXVI OAS Lecture Series of the Americas that will take place on June 22nd, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C.
Bruguière, who is also an antiterrorism expert at the Council of Europe, the Commission of the European Union and the United Nations (UNODC), will speak about the "the Fight against Terrorism and the Promotion of Democratic Values" and the opportunities for Europe and the Americas to work together identifying more effective mechanisms to combat terrorism.
As part of his work at the Court, Judge Bruguière has promoted a strong relationship with his counterparts as well as with intelligence agencies around the world. He also dealt with investigations concerning radical Islamism, in particular Al-Qaeda; and dealt with inquiries into separatist organizations such as IRA, PKK and LTTE.
During his career, Bruguière has advised several States on the fight against terrorism and has participated in numerous symposia on this issue.. Recently, he was appointed by the European Union as an "Eminent European Person" representing Europe in the United States within the framework of the US "Terrorism Finance Tracking Programme/SWIFT"
At the end of the main speaker's presentation, a question and answer session will take place.

El Juez investigador francés a cargo de la sección antiterrorismo de la Corte Parisina de Gran Instancia, Jean-Louis Bruguière, será el orador invitado a la XXXVI Cátedra de las Américas que tendrá lugar el próximo lunes 22 de junio en la sede principal de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) en Washington D.C.
Bruguière, quien es también experto en antiterrorismo en el Consejo de Europa, la Comisión de la Unión Europea y las Naciones Unidas (UNODC), disertará acerca de "La Lucha contra el Terrorismo y la Promoción de los Valores Democráticos", y sobre las vías para que Europa y las Américas puedan identificar mecanismos más efectivos para combatir el flagelo del terrorismo.
Como parte de su labor como coordinador de la sección antiterrorismo de la Corte Parisina de Gran Instancia, el Juez Bruguière ha promovido una estrecha relación con sus contrapartes, así como con las agencias de inteligencia del mundo. Igualmente, ha intervenido en varias de las investigaciones relacionadas con el islamismo radical, en particular de Al-Qaeda, y condujo investigaciones de organizaciones separatistas tales como el Ejército Republicano Irlandés (IRA, según sus siglas en inglés).
A lo largo de su carrera, Bruguière ha asesorado a varios países en el tema de lucha contra el terrorismo y ha participado en numerosos simposios sobre el tema. Recientemente fue nombrado "Persona Eminente Europea" por la Unión Europea, representando a Europa en los Estados Unidos en el marco del "Programa de Rastreo de Financiamiento del Terrorismo /SWIFT" del país norteamericano.
