UNEP launches online survey with Major Groups and other Stakeholders The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is currently undertaking an online survey with Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGS) in order to collect feedback on UNEP\'s current engagement system and inputs on new models of participation that can respond to the needs of all stakeholders. The objectives of the survey are to: i) Map out the gaps in UNEP\'s current engagement systems; ii) Document cases of best/good practices within other multilateral organizations; iii) Identify potential avenues for engagement and new models of participation. The survey will be open from 7-31 December 2012. Interested organizations and networks, including those who do not yet engage with UNEP, are invited to participate in the consultation. Human Rights Day 2012: "No matter who you are, or where you live, your voice counts" Every year, Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December, drawing attention to human rights and the need for people to fully enjoy such rights. The 2012 celebration was marked by the theme "Inclusion and the Right to Participate in Social Life," and in particular drew attention to the rights of all people, including socially excluded and marginalized people, to make their voices heard in public life and political decision-making. Member States move forward on implementation of Rio+20 outcomes Five months after UN Member States adopted the outcome document of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development ("Rio+20"), agreement has been reached on how to advance and concretize the implementation of some of the processes launched in June. The resolution (A/C.2/67/L.45) adopted on 30 November by the Second Committee of the General Assembly on the implementation of the sustain! able development agenda reaffirms that eradicating poverty is "the greatest global challenge facing the world today," and includes text on overcoming negotiation impasses related to the creation of a high-level political forum on sustainable development, the roll out of a ten-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, and other issues foreseen in the Rio+20 outcomes. President of the General Assembly Vuk JeremiÄ holds dialogue with civil society On 26 November, a civil society dialogue with the recently-installed President of the 67th Session of the General Assembly, Vuk JeremiÄ of Serbia, was organized by NGLS, the DESA NGO Branch, and the NGO Section of the Department of Public Information, at UN Headquarters in New York. This meeting provided an opportunity for civil society participants to raise concerns and ask questions to the President of the General Assembly, who provided an overview of the priorities of his term and its objectives, including in relation to civil society engagement at the UN. Fifth session of the Forum on Minority Issues marks the 20th anniversary of the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities The fifth session of the Forum on Minority Issues, organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), was held on 27-28 November 2012 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. As it marked the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the "Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities," the session specifically focused on identifying positive practices and opportunities in the implementation of the Declaration. How Inequalities Should be Addressed in the Post-2015 Development Agenda As the realization date for the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) draws closer, discussion on the scope and potential of the post-2015 development agenda is spouting within the UN and beyond. An adjunct event to the fifth session of the Forum on Minority Issues took place on 28 November, addressing inequalities faced by: national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities in the post-2015 development agenda.
