Dear members and colleagues,

 

Hope everyone is safe after the hurricane. Here on Long Island the power and Internet service was recently restored in our home. Cell phone service has been restored this morning.  Long Island was hit very hard with about a million people without power and much devastation and many people still do not have power.  Parts of New Jersey and New York/Queens have also had much damage.  The UN vicinity seems to be getting back to normal.

 

Following are some helpful resources, including distribution of free food today in NYC. It may be helpful to file these URLs for future reference.  Some of these organizations will be providing recovery and insurance information.

 

***In front of Trader Joe's, on 14th St between 4th Avenue and 3rd Avenue, 3 trucks
are serving hot and healthy food free.  They will start again at 5 pm. 
Please tell such people as might like to take advantage of this, especially homeless  people.  Food is being given away by Chase.

West Side Opportunity: For Monday 11/5, 8:30-11am. Bring donations to Redeemer West Side (150 West 83rd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus). Specific needs include nonperishable food items, water, blankets, large sized sweatshirts, coats and jeans, as well as premade sandwiches you can make on your own (maybe at a sandwich making party at your apartment later today!) If you have a car (with gas!) and are available to help transport collected items downtown at 11am Monday, please email westside@redeemer.com.

Bowery Mission

 

Need: The Mission is in great need of gasoline to power their generators, blankets, and sweatshirts. Please drop off any of these items at 227 Bowery, New York, NY, 10002 OR the administrative headquarters on Madison and 31st. Find more Bowery needs here.

New York City Relief

Need: Socks are greatly needed. You can purchase socks wholesale here or via phone 800-597-3886 and send them to NYC Relief. You can also purchase much-needed hygiene kits for New York Relief here (look for Relief Kit #1 and Relief Kit #2). Socks and/or kits can be shipped to: New York City Relief/295 Walnut Street/Elizabeth, NJ 07201.

New York City Rescue Mission

Need: NYCRM is in need of a Phase 3, 240 service generator. If you have any leads, please call 212-226-6215. They also need prepackaged food, fruits and vegetables, dry ice and water for neighbors, which can be dropped off directly at the Mission: 90 Lafayette Street. For more updates, please continue to check their Facebook page.

The Bridge

Need: The Bridge needs supplies for some of their residences. Please bring flashlights and batteries to248 West 108^th Street (off of Broadway) to the attention of Peter Beitchman.

A speedy recovery to those still without power and utilities. Our thoughts are with you.
