The United Nations Security Council held a meeting Sunday to discuss the escalation of violence in Syria, with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urging world leaders to "work harder for an end to the nightmare." At the meeting, Russia was accused of war crimes in Syria.

UN, others decry continued violent protests in DR Congo
The United Nations, joined by the EU and African Union, is pressing Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila and other leaders to halt the violence that is engulfing the country. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court is monitoring the situation, said ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Nations in the Group of 77, which is made up of 134 developing countries, will likely find a variety of ways to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, said Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha. "There is no one-size-fits-all approach for development," he said.

Poor diet contributes to bad health for one-third of people around the world, says a report by the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition. Only a global effort can curb bad diets and their effects, which include diabetes and heart disease, the report contends.
