| Supporter, Every year, I wake up on the first day of April feeling energized because I know what’s ahead: the National Days of Action for Peace in Colombia. This year, I’m more excited than ever because our movement has grown so big and because the timing couldn’t be more perfect. On April 14, President Obama will travel to Cartagena, Colombia, to meet with leaders from across the Western Hemisphere at the Summit of the Americas. Before, during, and after the Summit, through the National Days of Action for Colombia, thousands of people across the United States will be sending a message to our President and our Congress that this is the moment to change U.S. policy to support human rights and end the displacement crisis in Colombia. Will you join thousands of activists, students and faith leaders in taking action at this critical moment? This year, we’re focusing our efforts on sending a simple message: everyone deserves a place to call home. Every week in Colombia last year, more than 2,250 people were violently pushed off their lands and left homeless. Now Colombia has the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, but we’re still worried that President Obama won’t even acknowledge it when he is visiting for the Summit of the Americas. So to make sure he pays attention, we have set a goal to create 5,200 paper houses that we will deliver to the White House to represent Colombia’s 5.2 million internally displaced people’s desire to return home. Will you help us make these crafts and display them in your community? Check out our two-minute video on how to organize a successful Place to Call Home craft night (featuring LAWG staff!) and click here to get the materials you need to make the houses: There are also a lot of other ways for you to get involved. We have postcards, instructions for vigils, and faith-based resources for Colombia-focused church services. To learn about the many ways you can get involved in the national movement to change U.S.-Colombia policy this April, click here. If would like to get involved, please email me and I will be happy to help you plan. I'm looking forward to working with you! Best, Vanessa Vanessa Kritzer LAWG Colombia Team P.S.
