Amig@s de la Red, les comparto nota sobre publicación relacionada con Defensa de la Sociedad Civil. Nos la manda Ryota Jonen de la NED y Senior Manager del Movimiento Mundial por la Democracia.
Que les aproveche!!! Saludos,

Dear colleagues and friends,

I hope this message finds you well.

Before making an official announcement, I am pleased to inform you that the Defending Civil Society Toolkit, providing tips, tools, and strategies for civil society groups on how to best participate in the NGO law reform process, is now available in Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, at www.defendingcivilsociety.org.  The Defending Civil Society project is a joint project of the World Movement for Democracy and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL).

The Toolkit gathers the experiences of those who have engaged in legal reform initiatives in over a dozen countries worldwide to ensure that the international principles of freedom of assembly and of association are protected in legal frameworks.  The idea behind the Toolkit is that sharing practical experiences and lessons learned helps build the capacity of those who seek to reform the laws governing civil society.   The Toolkit includes the following chapters:

                    Understanding and Assessing Restrictive Environments;
                    Engaging Civil Society;
                    Engaging Diplomatic & Donor Communities;
                    Engaging the Media;
                    Building Dialogue with Government, Parliamentarians, and Other Stakeholders; and
                    Surviving in a Severely Restrictive Environment.

At www.defendingcivilsociety.org, you will also find the Second Edition of the Defending Civil Society Report.  Updating the original edition of the Defending Civil Society Report published in 2008, the Second Edition provides illustrative examples of the legal barriers used to restrict civil society space.  It also expands the discussion of major challenges witnessed in recent years, such as restrictions on the use of new technologies, measures against public movements and peaceful assembly, and the unintended consequences of efforts to enhance the effectiveness of foreign aid.   The report is also available in Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

On behalf of the World Movement for Democracy's Steering Committee and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law, I would like to express our appreciation for your important contribution to and support for the development of the Defending Civil Society Toolkit and the revision of the Defending Civil Society Report

Best regards,
Ryota
