Estimados co-miembros: Los saludo con respeto, y honestamente, un poco cansado, ya que he estado trabajando desde las 5:15 am. hasta las 8:00 pm. para la Junta de elecciones del Condado de Passaic como Miembro de Mesa.
Les escribo para compartirles el articulo que viene al final de mi mensaje, escrito para el TheTimeNews.com. Este mensaje nos habla de la duda que ha emergido sobre el censo. Honestamente, yo tengo mis reservas; no se si Ustedes pudieron leer la informacion que compartio el congresista Honda, con relacion a las veces que se ha utilizado la informacion del censo para herir la existencia de las comunidades inmigrantes.
He estado investigando y evaluando el beneficio del censo para nuestras comunidades inmigrantes, especialmente para aquellas que viven escondidas por el temor de ser tratadas como animales y deportadas. Yo no se si todos tenemos buen corazon, caras vemos corazones no sabemos, pero utilizemos la empatia para entender a nuestros y hermanas inmigrantes, ademas de ser claros y asertivos.
Yo les ruego a todos mis hermanos y hermanas con residencia o que actualmente son ciudadanos, que evaluen la necesidad de nuestros hermanos y hermanas que no estan en esa comoda situacion. Si nosotros perdemos el trabajo, el Employment nos manda nuestro cheque. Si nos ocurre un accidente y quedamos incapacitados, el Social Security Disability nos manda nuestro cheque. Si estamos mal de salud, es posible de que el Medicaid te mande tu tarjeta. Si estas sin trabajo y no puedes pagar tu alimentacion y la de tus hijos, posiblemente el Welfare te ayude con los Food Stamps. Si no tienes para pagar la renta y estas en una pobre situacion, tal vez te ayuden con la section 8 o con el Housing metiendote en los proyectos... que feo!..pero a nada?.
Los hermanos inmigrantes ilegales por mas que tengan su itin number y paguen sus impuestos, no reciben ni una clase de ayuda. Si se accidentaron en el trabajo, es muy posible de que el empleador no les quiera reconocer nada -si tiene suerte con el empleador le pagaran los dias perdidos- es mas seguro de que lo boten del trabajo o como sucedio con una cliente mia, la violaron y la amenazaron de que la iban a acusar con inmigracion si decia algo y por temor a que la regresaran se quedo callada.
Muchos defensores del Censo, nos dicen: "Ello, es muy importante para aumentar la posibilidades de tener mas representantes" ... representantes? ... de quienes?. En Passaic, nuestros hermanos jornaleros..los conoces?.. si... aquellos que se te acercan al carro para ver si le das trabajo de lo que sea... ellos, practicamente perdieron el local que tenian en la Park Ave de Passaic, NJ...el unico local que los protejia del frio y del calor aca en el Condado de Passaic. Permitanme ahora preguntarme: donde estan esos representantes?. Alguien me podria presentar a alguno que haga el bien sin mirar si tienes la ciudadania?. Haganme el favor!. Yo se que a mi me beneficia el censo y tambien a mi famlia, ademas de muchos amigos mios (todos nos hicimos ciudadanos), pero al que no lo es, le beneficia?
Yo mo me puedo quedar con los brazos cruzados, esos jornaleros de Passaic -SI de esa ciudad que fue declarada santuario de inmigrantes y que AHORA permite que la policia de la ciudad los meta presos cuando les da la gana y les llamen a inmigracion- ellos, estimados co-miembros, son mis hermanos y hermanas, como lo son los doce millones de sufridos inmigrantes, de los cuales cerca de cuatro millones son menores, todos ellos son mi familia. Que son ellos para ti?

Illegal immigration poses problem for census

The challenge looms large for census takers in North Carolina as they prepare to count illegal immigrants in a time of rising deportations and anti-immigrant sentiment.
The campaign to inform Latinos about the 2010 Census has begun, with officials working against both concerns that census information might be shared with immigration officials and a national movement calling for illegal immigrants to boycott the census unless immigration reform is enacted.
Census data is used to allocate congressional seats and federal funds for roads, social services, parks and other local projects. A failure to count North Carolina's large illegal immigrant population -- estimated at 300,000 -- could result in major losses for the state. The last census gave North Carolina a new congressman and revealed North Carolina as one of the fastest-growing immigrant destinations in the country.
Most local Latino advocates say they will work with the census, but even many of them are offering more tepid support than in the past.
"We can't afford not to be counted," said Tony Asion, director of the statewide advocacy group El Pueblo. "But I understand the mentality of the boycott. If we don't count, why should we be counted?"
Tony Jones, a spokesman for the census in Charlotte, said census employees are working with dozens of groups across the state, including Latino advocacy groups, Spanish media and churches to clear up misconceptions about the once-a-decade count. Since mid-April, they have been working with those groups to distribute Spanish-language brochures and air radio and television spots.
Federal law prohibits personal information collected for the census from being shared for 72years after it is collected. "Not even the United States president can get any of that information," Jones said.
Jones also said the census form will not ask any questions about immigration status.
Many Latino leaders say the census is a way for Hispanic immigrants to assert their presence, as well as to assure funding for community services that many illegal immigrants use, including parks, health clinics and benefits that go to their U.S.-born children.
"It's a way to have an accurate picture of who we are, and show that we have all different kinds of people living in this country," said Andrea Bazan of Durham, head of the board of the nation's largest Hispanic advocacy group, National Council of La Raza.
But others say that, even though they still believe in the importance of the census, they are not sure they can persuade their communities to embrace it -- not after raids in which people were taken from their homes at night and not after many have been deported after committing minor traffic offenses.
Ilana Dubester, director of El Centro Latino in Carrboro, said she worked for years to persuade Hispanic immigrants to trust law enforcement and report crimes. Now, many law enforcement agencies are working with federal immigration officials.
And she said there are no guarantees that Congress won't change the law and attempt to pry into census information. She said some lawmakers have tried to do so with the tax identification numbers that many illegal immigrants use, despite former assurances that the information was private.
"If I was undocumented, I honestly don't know if I would participate," Dubester said. "It's a government that's coming after me, and I don't have any trust."
