FAO: Avoiding food waste would cut greenhouse-gas emissions
Wasted food is the third-biggest generator of greenhouse-gas emissions when the food and its life cycle are taken into account, says a Food and Agriculture Organization report. "Food wastage reduction would not only avoid pressure on scarce natural resources but also decrease the need to raise food production by 60% in order to meet the 2050 population demand," FAO says.
