[RED DEMOCRATICA] Champion Needed

GlobalSolutions.org

Dear Friend,

Stanley Chang is running for the Democratic nod in a hotly contested primary in Hawaii's First Congressional District.  While Global Solutions PAC rarely endorses in primaries, we have endorsed Chang and urge you to back him as well.  Here's 3 reasons why:

  1. Hawaii One is a solid Democratic district. Who ever win the primary, wins the seat.

  2. We sent questionnaires to all the serious candidates. One other candidate responded but only "checked the boxes" on the questions. Chang not only gave very substantive answers (see below), he showed up in our office in Washington DC and clearly laid out why he believes "today's global issues such as protecting our environment and promoting human rights require that we work together across national boundaries".

  3. He's the candidate that shares our values and will champion our issues - if he's elected to the House.

Contribute now and help send Stanley Chang to Washington, DC

Stanley was so excited to hear that GlobalSolutions PAC endorsed him that he featured our statement on his website.  Here's what we said:

"Stanley Chang believes in a broad view of our national security that includes active U.S. participation in international institutions, cooperation to combat climate change, and promotion of human rights around the world. He has spoken out again fast-track authority for the Trans-Pacific Partnership and will fight to uphold strong labor and environmental standards in international agreements. Hawaii needs a representative in Congress who will work toward a more peaceful and stable world, and who will consistently support funding a broad range of international affairs programs. Stanley Chang shares our vision for America's foreign policy, and the Global Solutions Action Network is proud to endorse him."

Help us support Stanley's campaign! Here's more on why he must win his primary:

Credentials:

Chang is a graduate of 'Iolani School, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School. He left his job as a real estate attorney in downtown Honolulu and now serves on the City Council in the 4th district. And he was a Truman Security Fellow! This is a highly competitive leadership program for exceptional individuals who will become our country's future global affairs leaders and are committed to advancing Harry Truman internationalist policy over the course of their careers.

Here's what Stanley Chang says on the issue --

Civilian Protection:

"Our common humanity demands that we look beyond our own borders to help populations that are in urgent need". This is the voice that we need in congress in order to promote a more peaceful, just, and lawful world. Contribute now!

The Security Council Veto:

"Voluntarily refraining from using or threatening to use a veto in situations involving verified ongoing mass atrocities that come before the UN Security Council would be a step in the right direction.

United Nations Dues:

"Paying dues on time both to the UN and to the UN special fund for peacekeeping operations is a no-brainer. Contribute now!

Climate Change:

"I feel special responsibility to guard against rising sea levels, which are already having adverse effects on our beautiful state...."I will support reducing greenhouse gas emissions, participating in international summits on climate... to keep temperature increases below two degrees Celsius".

The International Criminal Court:

"The International Criminal Court is a vital institution that has contributed to global security. Proper punishment for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity will prevent recurrence of these grave atrocities".... "US ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC will strengthen the legitimacy of this organization and advance core American values around the world". Contribute now!

Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty:

"The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is a critical component of any strategy to reduce nuclear arms world-wide. The US should ratify without delay".

Women's Rights and CEDAW the Women's Equality Treaty:

"It is shameful that the US joins nations such as Sudan and Somalia in refusing to ratify [CEDAW]"... Even on the increasingly prevalent gender pay gap he says that "put simply, women deserve economic equality and security, and I support every initiative to close this inequality gap and give women equal pay for equal work". Contribute now!

Arms Trade Treaty:

"I am an enthusiastic supporter of the UN Arms Trade Treaty".

We urge you to help Stanley Chang win this very competitive primary race. We need many more like him in Washington.  Please make the strongest contribution that you can at https://act.myngp.com/Forms/-823734960743512320 .

Sincerely,
