  • G20 considers action over climbing food prices
Leaders of the world's industrialized countries are scheduled to meet this month to discuss whether to seek action by the Group of 20's Rapid Response Forum over all-time highs in prices for commodities, such as corn. Drought and extreme heat in the U.S., Eastern Europe and parts of Central Asia are partly behind the surge in prices, which also included staples such as soy and wheat, even as severe food crises are already affecting Yemen and the Sahel region of Africa. • Taking on Boko Haram: Is Nigeria doing enough?
Nigerian authorities have reportedly killed about 20 suspected Islamist fighters linked to the group Boko Haram. The government has imposed curfews for more than a year in some states in a bid to limit Boko Haram violence, but the policies may be contributing to poverty, and observers say that a security strategy is not enough on its own.
