UN-NGLS Civil Society Consultation for the Secretary-General, General Assembly and OWG on SDGs In partnership with the Post-2015 Development Planning Team / Executive Office of the Secretary-General, the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) is facilitating a consultation to gather civil society analysis of four Post-2015 reports to be submitted to the UN Secretary-General: 1) Post-2015 High-level Panel, 2) UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, 3) UN Global Compact, and 4) UN Development Group. The synthesis report will be delivered to the Secretary-General, and Heads of State and Government at the General Assembly Special Event on the Millennium Development Goals on 25 September and the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (OWG on SDGs). It will also inform a day of dialogue between CSOs and Member States on 22 September on the post-2015 development agenda. More information is available online. High-level Panel on Post-2015 presents report: emphasis on five transformative shifts On 30 May, the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda presented its long-awaited report, A New Global Partnership: Eradicate Poverty and Transform Economies through Sustainable Development, to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The report, serving as an input in the process of consultations being conducted by the United Nations in order to design a post-2015 agenda to succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) after their deadline in 2015, provid! es a set of recommendations that aims to help the international community work towards a new vision: to eradicate extreme poverty from the face of the earth by 2030 and to deliver on the promises of sustainable development. Civil Society Benchmarks for the High-level Panel on Post-2015 In the last weeks of the High-level Panel\'s tenure, various coalitions of civil society organizations and networks submitted sign-on letters to the Panel, highlighting "benchmarks" against which they will evaluate the Panel\'s report. The letters, some signed on to by nearly 200 organizations, address concerns including human rights as foundational principles for the Panel\'s recommendations; women\'s rights and gender equality, including the need to ensure sexual and reproductive health and rights; the need to address inequalities more broadly; an emphasis on State responsibility rather than abdication to the private sector; and the need to incor! porate peace and security in recognition of the situation of fragile States. More information is available online. UN-NGLS launches first issue of The 2015 Post UN-NGLS has launched a new e-magazine, The 2015 Post. The publication provides an overview of the current state of affairs and recent events and discussions related to the UN-led process of defining the post-2015 agenda and the intergovernmental decision-making follow-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development or "Rio+20." In an effort to highlight a range of voices and views on significant issues, The 2015 Post includes opinion pieces, interviews, and analysis of UN and civil society-led projects, conferences, reports and resources. World Environment Day 2013 draws attention to the tons of edible produce squandered each year World Environment Day (WED) 2013, celebrated on 5 June across the globe, drew attention to the tons of edible produce squandered each year with at least one third of all food produced in the world failing to "make it from the farm to the fork." According to the study, Reducing Food Loss and Waste, produced by the World Resources Institute and UNEP and drawing! on FAO research, water used to produce lost or wasted food around the world each year could fill 70 million Olympic-sized swimming pools, while the amount of cropland used to produce wasted food is equivalent to the size of Mexico. In historic votes, NGO Committee recommends Special Consultative Status to two lesbian and queer organizations From 20-29 May, the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations held its 2013 resumed session where it considered 246 new and 180 deferred applications for consultative status by NGOs.
