United Nations special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi says Syrian government and rebels must name who will comprise their delegations to the Geneva peace talks by Dec. 27. For the first time, the United Nations is combining humanitarian and development aid efforts in Africa's Sahel region to reduce hunger and poverty now and in the long-term. Climate adaptation pilot project launched for African farmers
The World Meteorological Organization launched a Climate Services Adaptation Program last month to help farmers in Tanzania and Malawi use weather information for better crop planting and harvesting, writes Kizito Makoye. Frugal innovation seeks to customize technology solutions for the developing world
The Frugal Innovation Lab at Santa Clara University in the U.S. is using frugal innovation to solve problems in the developing world such as a simpler testing method for arsenic in water supplies. "We don't come up with an idea, make it and then see if there's somebody to sell it to," explains Elizabeth Sweeny, the lab's program manager.
