CFR IN THE CLASSROOM: UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA ARGENTINA'S VERÓNICA DOMÍNGUEZ POUSADA

Verónica Domínguez Pousada, professor at Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, uses CFR materials as a multimedia approach to learning. "As younger students tend to require different and complementary teaching approaches...we use films, documentaries, and multimedia presentations to support our classes." Her Contemporary International Affairs class consults the CFR Darfur Crisis Guide to prepare for a UN Security Council simulation and CFR's U.S.-Russia Nuclear Arms Control timeline prior to class discussion on nonproliferation.

THE GULF SPILL AND U.S. OIL POLICY

Obama's Low-Octane Energy Message

CFR's Michael A. Levi analyzes President Obama's address on the oil spill in this First Take. He says that Obama rightly focused on the immediate challenge in the Gulf, but that he missed an opportunity to set a new bar for oil policy.

--> Click to access the companion CFR Analysis Brief, Oil Spill Fallout Still Gushing, which examines the ongoing debate over oil policy.

HISTORY OF HEDGE FUNDS

More Money Than God

In this groundbreaking new book on hedge funds, CFR's Sebastian Mallaby tells the inside story of hedge funds' origins in the 1960s and 1970s, their explosive battles with central banks in the 1980s and 1990s, and their role in the financial crisis of 2007–2009. He argues that the future of finance lies in the history of hedge funds.

EDUCATION SECRETARY ARNE DUNCAN AT CFR

In a recent CFR meeting, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan discussed the future of U.S. education policy and its implications for international competitiveness and national security. Click to download the transcript, and video and audio files.

THE CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL HEALTH GOVERNANCE

In this new CFR Working Paper, David P. Fidler assesses the capabilities of today's major global health institutions and initiatives and recommends needed reforms. He argues that U.S. leadership will be critical to future success in global health governance.

THE U.S.-ICC RELATIONSHIP

From Rome to Kampala

Given that the ICC will be the presumptive forum for future international trials of the worst perpetrators of war crimes and mass atrocities, this new Council Special Report argues that a strong working relationship between the United States and the ICC is essential to the shared goal of holding accountable those who have committed these serious crimes.

FOREIGN AID AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY

The Debate over Foreign Aid

CFR's Laurie Garrett says in this Expert Brief that it is important to evaluate foreign aid programs and address questions of accountability and value, especially at a time of concern about the economy, but that cuts or reductions in foreign assistance support are not merited.
