The United Nations is calling for more development aid for Somalia to support the country's rebuilding. Somalia now has "a leadership which has a sense of responsibility," says UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson. Somalia will require $1.33 billion in humanitarian aid this year, the UN estimates. Nigeria makes progress on some MDGs
Nigeria got started on the Millennium Development Goals late but is making progress on gender equality, maternal health, child mortality, and the battle against malaria and HIV/AIDS, said Mohammed Ali Ndume of the country's Senate Committee on MDGs. Recognizing the significant impact of gender inequity on women's health in low- and middle-income countries, the mHealth Alliance today released a Gender Analytical Framework to help mHealth implementers better understand the implications of gender issues for mobile health (mHealth).
