Security Council approves French forces for Central African Republic
The United Nations Security Council has approved France's deployment of troops alongside an African peacekeeping contingent to quell the violence in the Central African Republic. The resolution also imposes an arms embargo and leaves the option open for the UN to send in its own peacekeepers. Chemical-weapons destruction plan moves ahead amid security concerns
The Syrian port of Latakia will be used as the exit port for chemical weapons being shipped out of Syria for destruction, says Sigrid Kaag, head of the United Nations-Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons team.
