Resolution to refer Syrian war to ICC heads for Security Council vote
Fifty-eight United Nations member countries are backing a resolution drafted by France to refer the Syrian civil war to the International Criminal Court. The Security Council will vote Thursday on the resolution, with Russia expected to veto the measure. The Associated Press (5/19)

UNODC: Global presence of legal drugs is worrisome
The growth of legally available psychoactive substances and the global reach of these drugs is worrisome, says the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which reports an estimated 348 new synthetic drugs in more than 90 countries. The drugs are causing a public health challenge, as emergency responders and medical providers "find themselves unable to identify life-threatening substances and powerless to administer the proper treatment to users," the report says.
