UN agency chiefs jointly appeal for solution to Syrian crisis

The heads of five United Nations humanitarian agencies called Monday for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, using social media to get the message out. The agencies involved are the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Programme, the UN Refugee Agency, World Health Organization and UNICEF. "It was time to do something more innovative and that's why we're doing a big push," said Sarah Crowe of UNICEF. "Vladimir Putin promised to investigate the beating of Mikhail Beketov last year. He never did. In all likelihood, he never will. Journalist murders in Russia rarely get investigated -- they're seen almost as a favor to the establishment. Without national leadership to end them, these murders will just continue."
