UN: Earlier action could have eased famine in Somalia
A United Nations report has found that the 2010-2012 famine in Somalia may have been less severe if warning signs had been heeded. Almost 260,000 people, about half of which were children, died of hunger during the famine, the report found. "The report confirms we should have done more before the famine was declared," says Philippe Lazzarini, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia. Al Jazeera (5/2)
