Sad music has positive effects, study finds
Music considered "sad," such as Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, can have a positive effect on people, according to a study. Researchers questioned 722 people from around the world and found that many reported having feelings of nostalgia and peacefulness after listening to sad music. "Music-evoked sadness can be appreciated not only as an aesthetic, abstract reward, but [it] also plays a role in well-being, by providing consolation as well as regulating negative moods and emotions," Liila Taruffi and Stefan Koelsch of Free University in Berlin write in their study.
