March 6th, 2012 Raise Your Voice against War Talk in Senate Tell Your Senator you support talks, not war with Iran. | As the tensions continue to rise over Iran's nuclear program, so has the rhetoric for going to war. In a speech given over the weekend, President Obama noted, "Already, there is too much loose talk of war. Over the last few weeks, such talk has only benefited the Iranian government, by driving up the price of oil, which they depend on to fund their nuclear program."1 The Senate didn't get the memo. The International Atomic Energy Agency, along with U.S. military and intelligence officials, all agree that Iran has not yet decided to pursue nuclear weapon production.2 U.S. officials have also said bombing Iran could lead to an increase in threats of terrorism, a broader conflict in the Middle East, and higher prices at the pump.3 But despite all of this information, many senators want Iran to stop using nuclear technology all together at any cost, including war. Almost half of the Senate supports making negotiations with Iran more difficult and approves President Obama striking Iran if they don't halt their nuclear program entirely.4 Iran has signaled its willingness to come back to the negotiation table, but these talks won't restart with demands to stop nuclear production. We can tell the Senate that we support smart negotiation, not smart bombs, when it comes to Iran. Click here to send your senators messages to oppose war. Senators get thousands of letters a day, but we can get them to take notice about your call for a peaceful solution in Iran by sending at least 50 messages to their offices. After you send your message, could you share it with friends and family in your state? With all of our voices together, we can make an impact. Thanks for all that you do, Amanda B.
