High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on Post-2015: London Meeting

On 7 November, the Special Envoys of the Co-Chairs of the High-level Panel (HLP) of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Agenda and the High-level Panel Secretariat provided a briefing at UN Headquarters in New York to highlight the outcomes of the Panel\'s second meeting, held in London, from 31 October to 2 November.

The London meeting, which focused on the overall theme of household poverty, opened on 31 October in a seminar setting, allowing the Panel to hear from academic experts on key poverty and sustainability issues, including on future social and economic projections, rule of law, and good stewardship of natural resources. A closed discussion followed on 1 November, addressing individual and household poverty, with a particular focus on human development. Finally, 2 November was marked by a day of outreach to civil society, the private sector and youth. Organized in partnership with these constituencies, the outreach day featured six Civil Society Roundtables, a Youth Event, a Private Sector Roundtable, as well as a livestreamed Town Hall meeting.

In the lead up to the London meeting, NGLS carried out an online consultation, from 19-26 October and then extended through 7 November. The initial report was presented to the Panel on 30 October, ahead of their London meeting; the final report of the consultation will be available online in the coming days on the NGLS website in addition to www.worldwewant2015.org/post2015hlp.

57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women: Some key deadlines

Inline The 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW57) will take place at UN Headquarters in New York from 4-15 March 2013. It will gather a broad range of stakeholders to discuss two overarching themes and one emerging issue. For the 2013 session, the priority theme will focus on the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls. The review theme will address the equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS. The emerging issue is still to be determined.

ECOSOC-accredited NGOs may designate representatives to attend the annual CSW session. Pre-registration is now open (until 23 January 2013). There will also be a possibility for a limited number of NGOs to make oral interventions during the general discussion and/or the interactive expert panels (Sign-up period: 16 January to 19 February 2013).

In addition, from 13-14 December 2012, UN Women will convene a Forum to engage a range of stakeholders in the preparations for CSW57 at UN Headquarters in New York. The Forum will consist of five inter-active panel discussions and aims to: (i) raise awareness of existing commitments and standards for ending violence against women; (ii) create a platform for sharing ideas and strategies that work and bring results; (iii) identify key areas and issues where consensus needs strengthening; (iv) and foster dialogue and build alliances to accelerate implementation and follow-up to the outcomes of CSW57.
