Pide un alto total de la ley SB1070 y pide a nuestros representantes en Nueva Jersey no copiar tal racista y discriminatoria ley
En Paterson, mas de 10 grupos religiosos, comunitarios y organizaciones cívicas, incluyendo a Immigrant Rights Defense Committee, Hispanos Unidos de Passaic, Alianza Ecuatoriana de Passaic, Peruvian American Political Action Committee, Sociedad de Amigos Colombianos, NJ Immigration Policy Network, Pax Christi NJ, Haiti Solidarity Network of North East, Cuadrilla del Barrio, Brotherhood Lord of the Miracles and PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS estarán participando en la ejecución de una vigilia en la ciudad de Paterson (Condado de Passaic). El motivo es protestar por la aplicación de políticas de inmigración que están destruyendo las familias, gastando el dinero de los contribuyentes, además de ser racistas y discriminatorias. Los participantes también van a llamar la atención sobre las políticas que están actualmente en vigor en Nueva Jersey y que se asemejan a la situación en Arizona.
"El aumento de la seguridad en las fronteras no resolverá un sistema inútil. Leyes como la SB1070 de Arizona nos pone en peligro de detención y deportación, incluso errónea, independientemente de nuestra condición migratoria. Los riesgos son aún mayores para los latinos explicó David Toledo, Organizador de la Comunidad en el Condado de Passaic y uno de los fundadores de la Coalición por los Derechos de los inmigrantes del Condado de Passaic.
El evento La Libertad esta Muriendo en Arizona es la continuación de meses de acciones en NUEVA JERSEY que se dieron inicio en Diciembre, 2009 con el evento realizado en Newark por los derechos de los inmigrantes organizado por American Friends Service Committe. Febrero, 2010 con la peregrinación del Miércoles de Ceniza desde Ellis Island hasta el Centro de Detención de Elizabeth organizado por Pax Christi New Jersey. Otras acciones coordinadas incluyeron la organización de autobuses para trasladar a miles de residentes de NJ a DC para participar de la "Marcha por América" rally por una reforma migratoria; manifestaciones del primero de mayo que tuvieron lugar en Newark, Morristown, Hightstown y Trenton. P
Posteriormente la exitosa marcha de seis millas con cerca de 1,000 participantes, denominada PASSAIC COUNTY MARCHA el 30 de mayo (Condado de Passaic) exigiendo una nueva política de Inmigración, organizado por el Organizador de la comunidad David Toledo y 18 organizaciones del condado de Passaic y 12 del Estado Jardin. Asimismo; la colección de miles de tarjetas postales instando para que una reforma migratoria integral sea aprobada en el 2010, las cuales fueron enviadas a los miembros del Congreso por el contingente de Nueva Jersey de la Conferencia de Justicia de EE.UU, Obispos Católicos para la campaña de los inmigrantes y la Iglesia Unitaria Universalista Legislativa Ministerio NJ.
Finalmente, el Primero de Julio, con la exitosa accion estatal LET MY PEOPLE GO, donde participaron doce condados respaldada por mas de 40 organizaciones del estado.
Rosalina Santos coordinadora de PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS explicó: "Este evento es parte de una movilización permanente en todo el estado por parte de los activistas de derechos de los inmigrantes, las personas de fe, los inmigrantes recientes y los ciudadanos comunes y corrientes que están indignados por lo que está pasando en Arizona y ver los paralelismos con lo que esta pasando aquí en NJ. Estamos organizándonos para decir 'no' al racismo en todas sus formas y «sí» a la reforma migratoria ahora".

PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMIGRANT RIGHTS Night of Action to Call for a total stop to SB1070 and no copycat in New Jersey This Event planned is Part of Nationwide Actions in Solidarity with Arizona
Paterson, NJ - Over 10 community and civic organizations including Immigrant Rights Defense Committee, Hispanos Unidos de Passaic, Alianza Ecuatoriana de Passaic, Peruvian American Political Action Committee, Sociedad de Amigos Colombianos, NJ Immigration Policy Network, Pax Christi NJ, Haiti Solidarity Network of North East, Cuadrilla del Barrio, Brotherhood Lord of the Miracles and PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS will host a vigil in Paterson, NJ (Passaic County) on Thursday, July 29th to protest the law SB1070 which half has been stopped but it goes into effective today. A half victory is not a complete stop to the law and anyone in contact with undocumented immigrants will still be stopped and charged for transporting or harboring him or her in Arizona. Community based immigration enforcement policies that are tearing families apart, wasting taxpayer money and making us all less safe. Participants will also be calling attention to the policies currently in place in NJ which resemble the situation in Arizona . "Immigration enforcement will not solve a broken system. Increased enforcement in a system in which there is little oversight and due process is often denied puts all US residents, regardless of immigration status at risk of mistaken detention and even deportation. The risks are even greater for Latinos and other people of color," explained David Toledo, MA from PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS. The "Liberty is Dying in Arizona" event is a continuation of months of actions in NJ beginning in December 2009 with the protest fro immigrant rights in Newark coordinated by American Friends Service Committee; February, 2010 with the Ash Wednesday pilgrimage from Ellis Island to the Elizabeth Detention Center, coordinated by Pax Christi New Jersey. Other coordinated actions included the organizing of buses to take thousands of NJ residents to DC for the March for America to rally for immigration reform, the May 1st Day rallies which took place in Newark, Morristown, Hightstown and Trenton. On May 30th Passaic County March for Immigration Reform was a success with over 1,000 participants, coordinated by David Toledo and supported by the Coalition of Hispanic American Associations and Organizations from Passaic County. Continued actions were the collection of thousands of postcards, urging comprehensive immigration reform passed this year. Those were sent to members of Congress by the NJ contingent of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' Justice for Immigrants campaign and the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry NJ. On July 1st the statewide event Let My People Go was another success and twelve counties participated in NJ. Rosalina Santos, one of the leaders of PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS explained, "This event today is part of a continuing statewide mobilization of immigrant rights activists, people of faith, recent immigrants and ordinary citizens who are outraged at what is happening in Arizona and see the parallels to what is going on here in NJ. We are saying 'no' to racism in all forms and 'yes' to immigration reform now." Groups in NJ like others throughout the country will engage in various types of public witness in support of the people of Arizona, to denounce the anti-immigrant law there, and to send the message to local, state and national leaders that the current immigration system needs a just and comprehensive solution which is best handled at the federal level – and that no other state, county or municipality should suffer under legislation like Arizona's. WHAT: March, vigil and speeches from religious, political and community leaders about the Arizona law from 8:00PM to 9:30 PM. PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS is supporting the total halt to SB1070 and no copycat in New Jersey. WHO: PASSAIC COUNTY COALITION for IMMIGRANT RIGHTS, People of faith, include: Rev. WHEN: Thursday, July 29th at 8:00 PM WHERE: Passaic County ( Paterson ): We will gather at 7:30 PM at the main entrance of St. John the Baptist Cathedral of Paterson, corner of Main Ave and Grand Street . We shall march to Paterson City Hall on Market Street, Paterson where we will start a vigil at 8:00 PM and a Press Conference from 8:30 to 9:00 PM. We will use T-Shirt saying in the front Do I look Undocumented to you or dark clothes and candles. |
