The New Arab Revolt: What Happened, What It Means, and What Comes Next

Dear Educator:

We write to draw your attention to a recently released book from Foreign Affairs and the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). The New Arab Revolt: What Happened, What It Means, and What Comes Next sets the intellectual stage for understanding the revolutions in the Middle East and is an ideal resource for the classroom.

Bringing together more than sixty articles, interviews, congressional testimony, and op-eds from experts and thought leaders, including Bernard Lewis, Fouad Ajami, Lisa Anderson, Martin Indyk, Joshua Stacher, James Le Sueur, Dirk Vandewalle, and Rashid Khalidi, the volume includes seminal pieces from Foreign Affairs, ForeignAffairs.com, and CFR.org. It also includes major public statements by Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Hosni Mubarak, and Muammar al-Qaddafi, as well as writings by the Egyptian opposition and other relevant primary source documents.

We hope you will consider using this book to help your students explore the origins and significance of the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. It is now available for purchase in a variety of digital and print formats at www.ForeignAffairs.com/NewArabRevolt.

We also encourage you to visit CFR's Resources for the Classroom portal, www.cfr.org/educators, a dynamic webpage featuring the latest publications from Foreign Affairs and CFR as well as teaching tools, online interactives, multimedia archives of CFR meetings, and a range of other materials ideal for classroom use.

Sincerely,

Richard N. Haass
President, Council on Foreign Relations

On ForeignAffairs.com, professors and students can purchase discounted subscriptions accompanied by a free digital reprint of the essay collection, Clash of Civilizations: The Debate. Educators can select Foreign Affairs articles, as well as pieces from other prominent political science publications, to create and update unique readers for their classes via our publishing partner, UniversityReaders.com.
