On Sunday 2 London will host its first Brazilian day at Burgess Park.  The concert of Kjarkas has been postponed for Wednesday 5 at the same venue: Coronet Theatre (Elephant and Castle, SE1).

These gave an extraordinary opportunity to all lovers of the best Latin American music. On Sunday they can watch three international Brazilian artists (Leonardo, Marco André and Carla Visi), and on Wednesday they can watch the original creators of the Lambada (the Kjarkas).

For all people that like the Andean music there would be on Sunday 2 an Andean stage at Burgess Park (near the lake and Old Kent Road). In the Andean stage would play Lokandes, D-Pen-D and many folkloric bands and dance groups.

The fact that the Kjarkas are going to play on Wednesday has been welcome by many Bolivians because they would celebrate the beginning of their national day watching their best music group ever.

Signature campaign to be recognized as Ethnicity intensifies successfully

(Cover of Eurolatina newspaper)

The Iberoamerican Alliance UK is an assembly of leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals who care about the welfare of the community of Spanish and Portuguese speaking that is intended to vindicate human rights that relate mainly to immigrants. With just a few months after their first meeting, the Alliance has become the bastion of fight for the wellbeing  of Latin American immigrants, Spanish, Portuguese and other nationalities that may be classified among Iberoamericans.

While in the past we have not noticed, it is fair to bring to your  attention, a problem that has disadvantaged  immigrants who speak Spanish or Portuguese in many areas, and that is the absence of a specific box in the  employment forms, government Applications forms, censuses etc.

This means that we are NOT recognized as ETHNICITY. This means that when we fill one of these forms we have to check the box "others". We have the potential to be the largest minority, yet we are behind because we have not been identified. The municipal and national governments do not know of our existence in concrete statistics, therefore, they find it difficult to direct objective attention to our people in basic services, health, education among other rights and needs.

The IBEROAMERICAN ALLIANCE UK is the only association right now that has rolled up the sleeves and is working to make this a reality, They will do so in one of the largest events where Spanish and Portuguese speaking people gather this 2ng of august,  "EL CARNAVAL DEL PUEBLO "which will have tables near the Andean stage and across the event to collect signatures. The goal for this event is at least get 15 thousand signatures, it is possible given that the assistance to the Carnival is at least three times as many signatures needed.

Community involvement in this and future campaigns is vital, and the strength of the unit must be demonstrated in this day and in the next days. Unity is strength somebody said one day, and the truth is that now is the time to begin to unite to fight the injustices that immigrants are victims only because we have not  shown our strength in unity.

Just as a reference to note that in the United States Hispanic ethnicity is recognized and Spanish speakers in this country have scholarships in universities, are recognized as a minority, parliamentary representation and there are offices in state and federal government that focuses on the needs of the community.  Plus there are also Hispanic associations such as LULAC that fights for human rights, immigrants and against discrimination with offices all across USA, and this is what we need.

If we don't sign now .... When? if not us who will sign? And if you have a business with flow of  Spanish or Portuguese speaking (Iberoamerican), and want to support the signature campaign, please contact us. To support this campaign is the first step to a better quality of life in this country.
