Yesterday, MALDEF along with millions around the nation cheered as Judge Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed by a vote of 68 to 31 in the U.S. Senate to serve as the first Hispanic Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Judge Sotomayor will be sworn in as the 111th Justice of the Supreme Court by Chief Justice John Roberts Jr on Saturday, August 8, at 11 a.m. EST at the Supreme Court. She is scheduled to take the constitutional oath of office in the justices' conference room, followed by the judicial oath in the East Conference Room before a small gathering of her family and friends. A formal investiture ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 8, at 2 p.m. at a special sitting of the Supreme Court.
