President Obama to meet with key Senators today over Immigration Reform
SALT LAKE CITY— President Obama later this afternoon will be meeting with Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina over immigration reform. Last week more than 350 Latino advocates representing numerous organizations visited Congress. Many of these organizations told the Congressman and Senators the time form immigration reform is now. Last Friday, the White House announced to that President Obama would be meeting with key Senators of this issue today.
On March 21 Latinos will descend in Washington DC to join the MARCH FOR AMERICA to take "take stand for all of America's workers, families and communities across the country" Utah Latinos are planning a similar march here in Salt Lake City to show support for those who will be in Washington D.C.
President Obama promised during the 2008 campaign to take Immigration Reform during his first year in office. The Latino vote played a crucial role in four key states (Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada). Latinos and supporters have become increasingly impatient with the President and as such many groups throughout the country are calling to boycott the U.S. Census 2010 and to vote for candidates who support comprehensive immigration reform from either party.
Today's meeting is the first step and supporters will be carefully watching the result of this meeting.
