STATEMENT ON LAWSUIT TO STOP
HB-497 – ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT ACT
Salt Lake City, UT – Today the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the National Immigration Law Center filed a lawsuit to stop the implementation of HB-497 –Illegal immigration enforcement act. Tony Yapias, Director of Projecto Latino said "Latinos are pleased to hear a long waited news that a lawsuit is being filed to stop the implementation of HB-497 that is set to go into effect on May 10, 2011. It is important to know that no matter what the legislators believe we must all adhere to the Constitution of the United States of America and trust that the Courts will rule in our favor as they have with Arizona's SB-1070. HB-497 would have required all people (primarily Latinos) to carry "their papers" to proof status.
