Why the eradication of polio is worth achieving
Polio is proving harder than smallpox to eradicate globally, but the efforts are worthwhile, writes Matthieu Aikins. Removing the threat of polio is extremely costly today, but over time, "the eradication of polio could someday be seen as positively cheap," he argues. Wired.com (11/21)

Parts of Mali remain plagued by security threats
Northern Mali continues to face insecurity especially in the towns of Timbuktu, Gao and Kidal. Many humanitarian aid agencies aren't able to access these areas safely, and many refugees who want to return home are unable to do so. "Insecurity is also slowing down operations, as UN agencies wait for MINUSMA troops to secure or patrol areas before going in," IRIN writes. IRINNews.org (11/26), The Guardian (London) (11/26)
