UN's Kaag: Syria still has 7.5% of its chemical-weapons stockpile
Almost all of Syria's chemical-weapons stockpile has been shipped out of the country, with just 7.5% located at a single site still awaiting removal, says Sigrid Kaag, head of an international taskforce led by the United Nations and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. "The biggest bulk of the chemical weapons material is removed but not yet destroyed and that counts towards the 30 June deadline. That's why it's so important to get the remainder of the chemical-weapons material that is still in one site," Kaag says. BBC (4/27), The New York Times (tiered subscription model) (4/27)
