CFR IN THE CLASSROOM: SPELMAN COLLEGE'S
JEANNE MEADOWS

Jeanne Meadows, director of the International Affairs Center and associate professor of political science at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, requires students in her International Studies and World Politics courses to participate in CFR's Academic Conference Call series. "Many students like the idea that they get the chance to hear the scholars whose articles and books they are required to read," she says.

TEACHING THE AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ WARS

CFR President Richard N. Haass discussed approaches to teaching the Afghanistan and Iraq wars in the classroom in this special conference call for professors. Click here to listen to the discussion.

--> Dr. Haass's book, War of Necessity, War of Choice, is now available in paperback. To access his teaching notes for the book, click here.

ISLAMIC FEMINISM IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Paradise Beneath Her Feet: How Women are Transforming the Middle East

In her new book, CFR's Isobel Coleman journeys through the greater Middle East—Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan—to reveal how activists are working within the tenets of Islam to create economic, political, and educational opportunities for women.

NUCLEAR NONPROLIFERATION

Strengthening the Nuclear Nonproliferation Regime

In this Council Special Report, CFR's Paul Lettow examines the shortcomings of the nonproliferation regime and proposes a comprehensive agenda for improvements, including tougher sanctions against transgressors, a criteria-based system to limit the spread of enrichment and processing technologies, and expansion of International Atomic Energy Agency authority.

--> To access all CFR resources on nuclear nonproliferation, visit the new Nuclear Nonproliferation/Arms Control Topic Page here.

CLIMATE CHANGE: NEW INTERACTIVE

Global Climate Change Monitor

This newest component of the Global Governance Monitor uses interviews, a photographic timeline, and video to illustrate challenges to multilateral cooperation on climate change--a great resource for students!

FOREIGN OWNERSHIP OF U.S. ASSETS: NEW CHART BOOK

Foreign Ownership of U.S. Assets

CFR's Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies has published a new chart book on foreign ownership of U.S. assets. Thanks to the growth of cross-border capital flows and the U.S. current-account deficit, foreigners now own fully 57 percent of outstanding U.S. Treasury bonds, and significant shares of other markets.

--> CFR chart books provide a graphical examination of topics of geoeconomic interest. The list of chart books can be found here.
