OCHA's Ging: Food insecurity affects almost 3 million in Somalia
More than 850,000 Somalis urgently need food and an additional 2 million face issues of food security, says John Ging, the operations chief for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Only $36 million of the UN's 2014 appeal for $933 million has been funded. Ging says the funding is needed to avoid "a repeat of what happened in 2011," when 260,000 Somalis died of famine.
