UN's Pillay: Independent war-crimes inquiry needed of Sri Lankan civil war
Navi Pillay, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, is seeking an independent international investigation into war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan government and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam during the country's civil war. Such an inquiry "would contribute to establishing the truth where domestic inquiry mechanisms have failed," she says.
