UNESCO has awarded Iranian journalist Ahmad Zeidabadi with the Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize for "his exceptional courage, resistance and commitment to freedom of expression, democracy, human rights, tolerance and humanity." Zeidabadi is serving a six-year jail sentence on charges of plotting to overthrow the Iranian government through a "soft revolution," and faces an additional five years of internal exile as well as a lifetime ban from reporting in Iran.
