LIST OF 1300 LATINOS CAUSING FEAR IN THE LATINO COMMUNITY
Salt Lake City, UT – Late yesterday afternoon several media organizations started to call about a list of 1300 plus Latinos they received by mail to their addresses. This list contains specific names, last names, birthdates, addresses, city, zip code and phone numbers, according to the letter that was submitted states:
"We are enclosing a list of individuals who we strongly believe are in this county illegally and should be immediately deported…our group observes these individuals in our neighborhoods, driving on our streets, working in our stores, attending our schools, and entering public welfare buildings…We then spent the time and effort needed to gather information along with legal Mexican nationals who infiltrate their social networks and help us obtain the necessary information we need to add them to our list…"
Just this morning calls have started to come in from concerned Latinos asking if their information is on this list. Many are afraid and very scared by this list that appears to have been download from s State database.
Several anti-immigrant organizations have been vocal about our undocumented immigrants living in Utah. This list does nothing more that terrorizes our families. We are making the necessary calls and requests to ask for a full State investigation for possible criminal violations. This list is NOT something that this group says they did. This list appears to have been clearly taken from a state agency.
Tony Yapias, Proyecto Latino de Utah said "this list takes the debate over immigration to a new level. It appears that a state worker who may be a member of an anti-immigrant group or a sympathizer has been working with them to have provided them with this information"
Yapias added "I hold Ronald Mortensen, responsible for his organization and sympathizers for putting this list together." Coincidentally, Mr. Mortensen wrote on a blog the following:
Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has joined illegal immigration activist Tony Yapias in an attempt to pressure the LDS Church into opposing laws designed to control illegal immigration and to prevent the vast majority of illegal aliens from committing extremely serious felonies including document fraud, perjury and identity theft. (See end of this story for more information about the scope and incidence of these felonies).
Those who are on this list may be married US Citizens and/or spouses or children of US Citizens. This list also follows up a phone call from a State worker who called Tony Yapias on June 30, 2010. Making similar comments.
