RESPONSE TO
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
STATEMENT ON IMMIGRATION
Salt Lake City, UT – Tony Yapias, Director of Projecto Latino said "we are pleased that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has taken a stand for all of God's children" as the Church has made a new statement on the issue of immigration. Yapias added "we will hold our elected officials responsible for any law that impacts the Latino community in a negative way…as is our families are under constant fear"
To date, it is the strongest statement the LDS Church has made in regards to the issue of immigration. Latinos call on all Utahns to reflect on the Church's statement and support solutions such as a humane comprehensive immigration reform that is just. The ultimate solution to this issue is at the federal level in Washington DC and not at the state level.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Statement:
"The complex issues surrounding immigration are a matter of increasing concern and debate for all in this country.
"Elected individuals have the primary responsibility to find solutions in the best interests of all whose lives will be impacted by their actions.
"We repeat our appeal for careful reflection and civil discourse when addressing immigration issues. Finding a successful resolution will require the best thinking and goodwill of all across the political spectrum, the highest levels of statesmanship, and the strongest desire to do what is best for all of God's children."
