We invite you to encourage others to attend the upcoming Mayor's Anti-discrimination Campaign Workshop. A flyer of this workshop is attached. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Centro Civico Mexicano, 155 S 600 W. The presentation will be held in Spanish.
The focus of this campaign is to educate employees and employers about rights and responsibilities in the workplace.
Phase 1 is underway with workshops, a website, hotline, and videos.
Workshops will teach individuals about workplace safety, minimum wage requirements, and miscellaneous issues in the workplace. Presentations will be conducted by the Salt Lake City Office of Diversity and Human Rights, Utah Labor Commission, Workers Compensation Fund, and American Civil Liberties Union of Utah.
The next public workshop is in partnership with Coalition of LaRaza and Centro Civico Mexicano.

Website material will serve as an additional tool to disseminate information, as well as, provide links to other resources. The web address is www.slcgov.com/equal. Informational videos from the U.S. Department of Justice can be utilized by organizations and individuals. Also, video ads encouraging individuals to attend workshops will be available upon request in Spanish, Farsi, Somali, Vietnamese, and English. You may access these videos at SLCTV, YouTube, and Mayor Becker's Facebook page.
A hotline may be used by potential victims, witnesses, or other concerned parties to report suspected instances of workplace discrimination. The phone number is 801-521-EQUL.
Phase 2 will launch this fall with seminars hosted by the Utah State Bar in partnership with Utah Minority Bar Association (UMBA) and American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). The seminar will count as a 3 hour CLE on employment discrimination. Our goal is to have 1 hour taught by lawyers on the basics of employment discrimination, a second hour taught by human resource personnel on employment discrimination and 1 hour taught by an investigator with the EEOC or the Utah Labor Commission who investigates discrimination claims.
Partners of this project include: Utah Labor Commission, Workers Compensation Fund, American Civil Liberties Union of Utah, Office of Ethnic Affairs, United Way, Utah Minority Bar Association, Salt Lake City Human Rights Commission, Latin American Chamber of Commerce, Society for Human Resource Management, Communidad Unidas, United Africans of Utah, Coalition of LaRaza, Tracy Nguyen and city staff.
